Many of us start a job hunt after graduation and others after post-graduation or doctoral programs. As the need for a job and money becomes clear during higher studies, youngsters go after part-time vacancies and job interviews while pursuing it. Often they don’t get a satisfactory one in the beginning and will begin with a job just for the sake of it. Anyway, something is better than nothing as far as a part-time student job is concerned. They will certainly reach their targets as they broaden their horizons. Most of them will start their career as a necessity-based one, which consists of some monotonous tasks like data entry and then gradually moves towards a passion-based one as new skills are added. For almost all senior professionals their past job was a necessity and the present job is a passion.

When a part-time-student job like a billing clerk is considered, it usually consists of a monotonous task like data entry and rarely arranging the products. They will do the job with dedication as they want to be financially independent while doing higher studies. Since financial independence will give wings to their dreams and will increase their marketability in the job market, they will work really hard. Hard work in any field is capable of earning a good reputation for a fresher and it adds another feather to their cap of experiences while searching for a job after higher studies. With the experience of their first job, they move on to their second job or the first fulltime job after higher studies with a more professional outlook.

After years of professional experience, a well-experienced candidate will opt for a job about which he/she was more passionate about. He/she will easily get hired by some good firm with a good payment and other perks. Passion acts as a catalyst for better quality and productivity, which quickly elevates him to a higher level without having to climb the stairs. Let us examine the case of an AI specialist who always had a passion for teaching. The responsibilities of his past job as a software engineer consisted of coding and testing. He was not passionate about this job even though he got job satisfaction. He attended many tests/interviews for the role of a professor. Finally, he got hired by a university for the role of an AI professor. His present job responsibilities consist of lecturing, AI research, grading, and guidance to AI research scholars. Whenever he got an opportunity to address a group of students, he used to say “I like this profession because it gives me the opportunity to teach students as well as to do research.” With passion as the catalyst, he reached new heights in both teaching and research.

A huge difference can be often noticed in a person’s attitude towards his past job and present job. He/she just wanted to get things done in their past jobs if it was not his/her passion. In their present jobs, which they are passionate about they want to do every task perfectly resulting in added benefits to them as well as to the firms where they are employed. This results in mutualism, where both the employee and employer are equally benefitted from their mutual dependence. There are many other factors which contribute to making the present job better than the past job and experience is the second important factor. Experience makes one a seasoned professional with better quality and productivity. All senior professionals have a common phrase of “I like this job because I am quite passionate about this” about their present job.

A career has a significant role in a person’s life, whether it is a past job or a present job. It is his/her source of income, professional satisfaction, and sometimes the only medium of interaction and a reason to live in a world where money is everything. It has a stigma and charisma of its own and helps a person glow in a dark world where every person without money and position is equivalent to an empty dark space. Whatever the reasons may be, for all professionals past job is like an eldest son/daughter who is not the dearest of the parents and the present job is like the youngest son/daughter who is the dearest.
