The cause leads to infection of the peritoneal layers, this leads to infection of the fluid in the peritoneal cavity. In order to counter react the immune system plays a role by fighting infection by increasing WBC reactions. As a result inflammatory process occurs as an immune response. This if not treated will affect the internal organs and start causing symptoms.
