Low vision or visual impairment are the words which means limitation in the functioning of the eyes, leading to temporary or permanent disability of eyes. Nurse should be very careful in dealing with ophthalmic disorders, because these disorders may completely damage the vision from eyes. Nursing strategies should be made by the nurse to help client oriented with hospital room environment as to perform easy mobility and self independent in hospital. The strategies are as follows :

* Assess for client visual health and pressure

* Motivate client to use ophthalmic devices and other supportive devices to make easy mobility

* Explain in detail about treatment strategies and discuss about advantages and disadvantages of the treatment.

* Aiding to perform activities of daily living

* Providing rehabilitation services for client to adapt for normal life style

* Discuss follow up services with client

* Be friendly and have patience with client in dealing with vision impairment cases

* Involve family members during client stay in the hospital to make client confident.

NURSING CONSIDERATIONS WHEN PROVIDING PERI-OPERATIVE CARE :

Peri operative nursing care is defined as providing care to patients, using nursing process techniques to support patients families during decision making regarding treatment regimens and patients who are undergoing for surgical procedures. Perioperative nursing includes 3 phases, They are as follows :

1. PRE OPERATIVE CARE

2. INTRA OPERATIVE CARE

3. POST OPERATIVE CARE

1. PERI OPERATIVE CARE : It means before the surgery. Nursing considerations during this phase includes -

- Collect all the medical and surgical histories of patient (present, past)

- Complete physical examination of the client especially the eyes

- Check for any abnormal infections in eyes

- Monitor vital signs

- Check doctors order for surgery

- Prepare patient part (eyes) for surgery

- Keep patient on NBM

- Connect IV fluid drips before surgery

- Take consent from patient

2.INTRA OPERATIVE CARE : It means during the surgery. Nursing considerations include -

- Shift patient into operation theater

- Place patient on operating table

- Monitor vital signs

- Prepare anesthesia and administer it

- Evaluate consciousness of patient

- Assist doctor during entire procedure

- Pass on the instruments needed to doctor during surgery

- Assist doctor until completing of the surgery

3. POST OPERATIVE CARE : It means after the surgery . Nursing considerations include -

- Monitor vital signs of patient

- Assess for surgical eye for presence of any infections, pus, discharges, blood from eyes

- Administer treatment regimen to patient

- Regular dressing of eyes using aseptic techniques

- Follow up patient case to doctors

- Educate about importance of using supportive devices after surgery.
