a) You decide to conduct a study to investigate the relationship between consumption of broccoli and weight among kids. You visited 50 schools in Chicago School District and asked children about their usual consumption of broccoli and their weight. What type of data is it (observational vs. experimental; cross-sectional vs. time series vs. panel)?

b) You decide to conduct a study to investigate the relationship between consumption of broccoli and weight among kids. You randomly selected 25 schools and provided broccoli for free for entire year to all kids in those schools while kids from the other schools did not receive any broccoli. Answer #1

a)in the first case the person is visiting 50 school in the same time period and collecting data from different variables like consumption of broccoli and their weight so the data collected here are cross sectional data and the researcher tried to observe the effect of brocoli on weight so its a observational cross section data.

b) in the second case the person is collecting data in two different time period that is before giving them brocoli and after giving them brocoli. its a type of experiment because some students are given brocoli and the effect of it are being observed so here its an experimental method and as the data so collected is at 2 different time period taking more than one variable it comes under panel data which is the combination of cross section and time series data.
