In general the term CARCINOMA rfers to cancer cells

Basal cell carcinoma

  1. Basal cell is a type of cell in the skin and basal cell carcinoma is one of the most common type of skin cancer that occurs most likely in fairer people.
  2. It is usually caused by sun exposure and is diagnosed with the help of biopsy.
  3. It can be prevented by wearing protective clothings such as long sleeved shirts,use of sunscreen and avoiding excess exposure to sun.

Squamous cell carcinoma

  1. It is second most common type of skin cancer with appears in outer most layer of the skin(epidermis) and common in fair people.
  2. It is also caused by sun exposure and more prone to occur on skin which is damaged.
  3. It can be treated by cryosurgery(exposure of affected skin to extreme cold) and prevented by using protective clothing,use of sunscreen and avoiding exposure to severe sunrays.

Malignant Melanoma

  1. It is a type of skin cancer which occurs in skin cells called melanocytes which gives dark color to the skin and malignancy refers to spread of cancer cells.
  2. It usually occurs in family members with melanoma or with moles of different shapes,weak immune support to the body  and use of tanning beds.
  3. It symptoms appears to be firm red or gray lumps,brown patches with red,white or black spots,itching,inflammed or spread of spots to other part of skin and mouth.It can be treated by treating the cancerous tissue either by suegery,radiation or chemotherapy.
