Q.1.
Hydrogen(H2) and iodine(I2) form Hydrogen iodide(HI) as following equation,
H2 + I2 = 2HI
Here, Hydrogen is in +1 oxidation state and iodine is in -1 oxidation state. Here it is important to note that, Iodine is a halogen element.
Hydrogen and potassium(K) will give potassium hydride(KH) as following, 2K + H2 = 2KH
Here, potassium is in +1 oxidation state & hydrogen is in -1 oxidation state insted of +1.
Hydrogen & oxygen(O2) will produce water(H2O) as following,
2H2 + O2 =2H2O
Here,Hydrogen is + 1 oxidation state but the anion counterpart(Oxide or O2-) in the compound is divalent;i.e, have valency number two(2).
Hydrogen react similarly with sulfur(S) to form hydrogen sulfide(H2S) in which hydrogen is in +1 oxidation state & the anion counterpart( Sulfide or S2-) in the compound is divalent also.
Hydrogen will react with fluorine to form hydrogen fluride(HF) as following, H2 + F2 = 2HF
Among the compounds KH, H2O , H2S & HF, hydrogen remains in -1 oxidation state in KH whereas in HI, hydrogen is in +1 oxidation state. In H2O & H2S ,hydrogen is in +1 oxidation state but the anions are divalent whereas in HI , the anion(I-) is monovalent.
In HF ,Hydrogen is in +1 oxidation state and the anion (F-) is monovalent and flurine is a halogen element.
Hence,comparing the Oxidation state & nature of the anion in the compound, we can say that,
Fluorine(F) will form compound with hydrogen,most similar with the compound formed by hydrogen and iodine &
Potassium(K) will form compound with hydrogen,least similar with the compound formed by hydrogen and iodine.
Q.2.
we know that, the volume of a rectangular tank can be calculated by using this equation,
Volume = (length × width × Height) unit3
Given,
length = 0.195 m.=(0.195×100) cm.=19.5 cm. width = 9.2 cm. height = 11.9 cm.
Hence, putting the values in the above mentioned formula,we get,
Volume = (19.5×9.2×11.9) cm3
= 2134.86 cm3
=(2134.86/1000) L. [ as,1000 cm3 = 1L. ]
=2.13486 L.
Hence, the volume of tank will be 2.13486 L. and after rounding off(as per given instruction), the volume will be 2.1 L.
[As rounding off a fractional number, if the number right to the number(to which place the rounding off is processing) is less than five,then the number( to which place the rounding off is processing) will remain same.In this case, rounding off is done to decimal place and the number right to the decimal place number is 3 which is less than 5.So,the decimal place number will remain same.]
