3. Mary is promoted to work as a ward manager in a ward new to her. She finds that most of the ward staffs in the ward are often late on duty, they call sick frequently and show no interest in their work, they do not bother about their performance appraisal result as every year the rating appeared the same and they do not care about their career development. If you were Mary, please name FIVE motivators according to Herzberg's Motivation Theory and discuss how you use them to motivate your staffs, illustrated with one example to each motivator (10 marks)

The Herzverg motivation theory is cayegeorosed into two factors namely

• Hygienic factor which provides means to handle dissatisfaction li level in employee in working environment (focuses on dissatisfaction)
• Motivational factor which provide means to handle the satisfactory level of employee in the work place(focuses on satisfaction)

The following motivators can be used here are

• Making the organization policy strict for compliance with it like reporting on time ,attendance records and action fir not abiding to it for the employee. This can make the employee to follow it otherwise make them realise that certain action will be taken against them
  • Eg.,The organization intruding biometric system for attendance.The nurse in order to avoid pay deductions reports on time
• Providing a good working conditions to the employee .This can make the staff to feel free and get adjusted easily and work on a comfort zone
  • The nurse can be provided with the necessary equipments or devices accessible at all time with full liberty.The nurse can call a provider to report the critical condition of a patient at any time to initiate nursing intervention
• Appraisal and recognition is a best motivational factor which can improve the performance of the staff
  • The nurse for their good deeds like providing the best quality care,reducing readmission rate with health education can be recognized and given appraisal
• The staff can be provided responsibility, so that they follow it and encourage others to do it and reducing the error and makes them motivated to do things to the most accuracy
  • The nurse can be given promotion in their designation annually which motivate them to further improve their work with sincerity
• Providing them opportunities to explore
  • Initiating CNE programs ,trainings to develop skill ,certification programs can make them to learn and improve their qualification which can make them satisfied in work place
