1. What factors that have contributed to changes in death customs from the nineteenth to the twentieth century. The makeup of family has changed from having extended multiple generations to more single generational households. The extended multi- generations families had older members being cared for and would die at home with family members bedside. Answer: The death customs has been changed from the past centuries as earlier people used to live together and has a large family, more affection with the family members, but at present in spite of multi-generation extension there is single generational household. The old people were cared at home in the multiple generation extension and had lots of attachment. At present outside members are taking care of old people and they die outside of the home so this causes disconnection from death.

Answer: The characteristics that one to have a mature concept of death are universality, irreversibility, nonfunctionality and causality. Universality is the acceptance of the truth that death is uncertain and everyone has to die one day. Irreversibility means no one can escape death, Nonfunctionality describes the cessation of all bodily function. Causality includes that death comes with a reason such as a disease or accident becomes the cause of death.
