It is a standardized, multiple choice exam for students applying for nursing school in the USA .It is often used to determine the ability of potential students to adjust to a nursing program.

TEAS READING

The TEAS Reading subtest consists of 48 total questions (42 scored) and has a 58-minute time limit. The Reading subtest is intended to assess a candidate's reading comprehension. The test questions typically consist of a multi paragraph passage and accompanying questions. Students will also be asked to interpret charts, graphs, maps, labels, measuring tools, and directions. The following objectives may be tested:

• Identify author's intent
• Identify themes, main ideas, and supporting details
• Differentiate opinion from fact
• Draw conclusions and make inferences
• Identify structure and text features
• Define Vocabulary
• Follow a set of directions
• Interpret graphic representations of information

TEAS MATHEMATICS

The TEAS Math subtest consists of 34 total questions (30 scored) and has a 51-minute time limit. A candidate's knowledge of algebra, data interpretation, numbers and operations, and measurement are assessed. The TEAS test will assess some of the following objectives:

• Convert between decimals, fractions, and percents
• Add and divide fractions and mixed numbers
• Solve math problems containing ratios, proportions, and rate of change
• Convert between Roman and Arabic numbers
• Solve equations with one unknown variable
• Solve equations and inequalities containing absolute values

TEAS SCIENCE

The TEAS Science subtest consists of 54 total questions (48 scored) and has a 66-minute time limit. The most recent version of the exam (TEAS V) greatly expanded the science subtest. Candidates often find this section to be one of the most challenging. The TEAS Science subtest assesses a student's knowledge of scientific reasoning, life science, the human body, and physical and earth science. Candidates will be expected to demonstrate the following skills:

TEAS ENGLISH AND LANGUAGE USAGE

The TEAS English and Language Usage subtest consists of 34 total questions (30 scored) and has a 34-minute time limit. This subtest covers the areas of grammar, sentence structure, punctuation, spelling and contextual words. The TEAS English test will assess a student's ability to perform the following skills:

• Interpret subject-verb agreement rules
• Determine the meaning of words from their context in a sentence
• Identify and use various parts of speech including possessives, pronouns, verbs, adverbs, and adjectives
• Use verb tenses accurately
• Determine the correct spelling of irregular plurals, compound or hyphenated words, and frequently misspelled words
• Identify the correct capitalizations of names, titles, and addresses
• Differentiate between simple, compound, and complex sentences
• Identify the correct punctuation of sentences
• Change from passive to active voice

TEAS TEST REGISTRATION

Candidates should verify the TEAS registration processes with their desired nursing school. The TEAS test is given at multiple sites throughout the United States, typically at nursing schools, community colleges or dedicated testing sites. The nursing program typically specifies the testing dates and test locations. The TEAS test may be given either electronically or via paper and pencil. Prior to taking the test, candidates must create an account at the ATI website. Information from this account will be required when the exam is actually taken.

TEAS TEST SCORES

Scores for the TEAS test will be available immediately for electronic tests and within 48 hours for paper and pencil exams. A candidate's transcript will contain an adjusted composite score which is the number of correct questions divided by the total number of questions. This score is also adjusted for the difficulty of the specific exam that was given. The adjusted composite score can be compared to a national mean and a program means. The national mean is the average adjusted composite scores for all candidates who took the same version of the test. The program means is the average of the adjusted composite scores for all candidates who took the same test version and are in a similar program.
