  • Age, gender, race, socioeconomic class, religions of the country
  • Progress toward MDGs
  • Major health concerns of the country
  • Status of the country in terms of epidemiologic or demographic transition

Be sure to support your points for each of the components in parentheses with data from the program and outside research.

Demographic profile of india :

  • The population of india is very large in size and is growing very rapidly .as gas as the size of population is concerned ,india ranks second in the world ,next only to china .

Age structure :

  1. The age group of working population in a india is considered as 15-60 years .
  2. India is a young nation in the literal sense of the term .more than half the india 's population consists of young people .
  3. The age distribution indicates that every one person ,on an average has to earn For himself and For one dependent also .this is because the dependency ratio is high in india .

Sex ratio :

  1. Sex ratio refers to the number of females per thousand males .
  2. Among the various states of india ,kerala and pondicherry recorded a higher proportion of females .
  3. In the states like andhrapradesh , tamilnadu , orissa ,karnataka , the number of females per 1000 males is comparatively higher than that of all india ratio .
  4. States which have recorded a lower ratio than the national average include rajasthan , bihar , uttar pradesh ,haryana and assam .

Religion:

  1. House world 's third biggest muslim population .
  2. Majority of muslim population : lakshadweep and jammu and kashmir .
  3. Majority of christian population : megalaya ,mizorum and nagaland
  4. Majority of sikh population : punjab
  5. The share of the hindu population is 80%.

Income :

  1. India's per capita income is $1219, ranked 142 in the world .
  2. Mean personal income is $53,000 and median household income is $92,000.

Progress towards MDG's :

  • India is a signatory to the millennium declaration adopted at the united nations general assembly in september 2000.and has consistently reaffirmed its commitment towards the eight developmental goals .
  • The targets of the MDG's coverage with india's own development goals to reduce poverty and other areas of deprivation.
  • India is About two third of developing countries have achieved gender parity in primary education .

Major health concerns :

  1. Physical activity and nutrition .
  2. Overweight and obesity .
  3. Tobacco
  4. Substance abuse.
  5. HIV / AIDS
  6. Mental health
  7. Injury and violence
  8. Environmental quality

Status of country in terms of epidemiological or demographic transition :

  • The india current staff of epidemiological transition can be characterized by low mortality , high morbidity , and by the double burden of communicable diseases and NCD,s.
