A nurse plays an important role in healthcare industry. A nurse is directly associated with the caregiving of a patient. Qualified, skilled and trained nursing staff helps in improving quality of care and results in positive outcomes. This leads to upliftment of population health.

As the nurse beholds such a major role in the healthcare system, educational qualification and training of nurses becomes important.

A nurse deals with variety of people from different ages, communities, societies, cultures, religions and races. A nurse deals with paediatric as well as geriatric population. According to studies and surveys there will a great increase in number of elder adults in US. Studies suggest that in coming years elder adults will constitute the major percentage of US population. Growing population of ageing people is the reason for educating the nurses about elderly needs. Nursing staff with experience and knowledge to deal with several mental and physical health related issues in ageing population and their needs will help to yield better results and more satisfied patients. This help in early patient recovery, shorter hospital stay and positive outcomes.

The population of US is becoming diverse. People from different communities, culturs and races reside in US and seek medical services on day to day basis. Studies suggest the US population will see a rise in Hispanic and Asian population in coming years. So if the nurse is well educated about different population it will help in better patient care. A nurse with better knowledge and experience about diverse population will help in better understanding of their genetics and heredity, lifestyle and beliefs, customs and beliefs. This will not only help in better quality of care but also make patient s satisfied.
