Mrs. Perez, 32 years of age, is a Hispanic patient who is admitted for early stage cancer of the uterus The surgeon stated that in order to treat Mrs. Perez's cancer successfully, the uterus will need to be removed surgically through a procedure called a simple hysterectomy leaving the ovaries, fallopian tubes, and vagina. The surgeon requests that the nurse make arrangements for an interpreter, so they can both use the interpreter's services. The patient only speaks Spanish, but her mother and one of the patient's sisters are bilingual. They are currently visiting the patient. Her husband is also visiting and he only speaks Spanish. The patient's two children are with her sister Maria. The family stated they are devout Catholics and request to see a priest while in the hospital. Today is Ash Wednesday a. Which interpreter is the most appropriate choice to communicate with Mrs. Perez and why? b. After critically analyzing the cultural influences, what nursing actions are appropriate for the patient?

1). Case study of Mrs. Perez;

a) Answer; The most appropriate interpreter to communicate with Mrs, perez is her Mother, because she knows both
  languages and she will be more knowledge in taking care of her daughter and interpret properly than her sister who knows
both languages, other than that all members can only speak Spanish, So her mother was appropriate.

b) Answer ; The nurse should first asses their primary request, in this case it was to visit her religious priest, Then the nurse should check the client health condition and report to the physician, after the consideration with the health care team the nurse should direct the client according to their convenient.

2).

a) Answer; The nurse should include following strategy to avoid stereotyping clients from other culture are,

• Every nurse should have a cultural awareness and understanding and realization about other culture.
• Every nurse should learn to give respect and treat equally and follow the every nursing ethics like justice
• have a class regarding the cultural class about their beliefs, their customs and their tradition, so it will prevent
  the stereotyping.

b) Answer; The culturally sensitive issues that are need to be included in this meeting are Physical touching is not allowed in some customs, Eye contacts, Exposing of face and body parts, foods and medicine that they are taking, Vegan, Shaving the hairs in the face and other body parts, wearing some kinds of dresses and ornaments etc.

c) Answer; The nurse should explain to that technician, that in some culture direct eye to eye contact is not allowed, it is little bit difficult to complete your work, but you can have your conversation even without eye contact, or ask their client is there any media or interpreter that I can conveniently converse and then you do you job.
