Answer #1

Cost of timber tract = $4,000,000

Residual value = $750,000

Estimated timber quantity = 6,500,000 board feet

Depletion expense per feet of timber = (Cost of timber tract - Residual value)/Estimated timber quantity

= (4,000,000 - 750,000)/6,500,000

= $0.5

Timber logged = 650,000 board feet

Depletion expense for 2018 = Timber logged x Depletion expense per feet of timber

= 650,000 x 0.5

= $325,000

Depreciation expense per feet of timber = Cost of logging roads/Estimated timber quantity

= 312,000/6,500,000

= $0.048

Depreciation of the logging roads =  Timber logged x Depletion expense per feet of timber

= 650,000 x 0.048

= $31,200

Depletion of timber tract $325,000
Depreciation of the logging roads $31,200
