Answer #1

book value of equity = total stockholders equity

book value of equity in 2016 = $23.3 million

book value of equity in 2015 = $21.4 million

change in book value of equity in 2015 = ($23.3 million - $21.4 million)

change in book value of equity in 2015 = $1.90 million

This does not imply that the market price of Global's shares increased in 2016.

Book value is the historical value recorded in the books of accounts, whereas market value is the market capitalization of the firm, which is measured as market price per share * shares outstanding.

Market price is determined by the market and investors, whereas book value is determined by book entries.

Hence, an increase in book value does not mean that the market price of shares has increased.
