Nursing profession is extending its wings by developing more specializations. The areas of specialization includes oncology nursing,psychiatric,nurse anesthetist, nurse practitioner,clinical nurse specialists, certified nurse midwife,nurse researcher.

Nurse anesthetist needs nurses to obtain certification as CRNA( Certified registered nurse anesthetist). Educational requirements BSN degree and obtain license as a registered nurse,To pass exams conducted by National Board of certification and recertification for nurse anesthetists.The NA works in collaboration with the surgeon,dentists,podiatrist to facilitate safe administration of anesthesia. They help the patient in managing post operative pain and maintaining ABC during the preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative phase. The American Association of nurse anesthetist states the responsibilities of nurse anesthetists as: performing nerve,epidural and spinal blocks. Administering anesthesia during different phases of surgical,medical,obstetric and diagnostic procedures based on patients weight and clinical condition. Educating client regarding the side effects of anesthesia. Periodically monitoring vital signs during the entire surgical or diagnostic procedure. The Nurse anesthetist must equipped with following skills like effective communication as work is in collaboration with various health care professionals. Leadership skills and ability to work even in remote areas and ability to lead the medical team.

Family Nurse practitioner is an advanced nurse practitioner works independently or in coordination with other health care professionals to deliver an effective family health services. It is family centered care. To obtain FNP degree the nurse must clear NCLEX exam to become a registered nurse. After gaining 3 years of experience in an acute care setting Master degree can be pursued as FNP. The job responsibilities of FNP includes: conducting periodical wellness programs for all the family members, preventive health education to safeguard from life threatening conditions, to identify the health promotion, performing screening procedures, medication management based on the intensity of illness. Involving in referral services based on family needs, prescribing for laboratory investigations and interpreting the findings, planning treatment plans for bot ache and emergency conditions.
