6. The following are excerpts from criteria in the American Nurses Association (ANA) (2010) professional practice Standard 1. For each of the criteria, write an example of what would constitute evidence (proof) that the standard is being followed in a healthcare agency. The first one is done for you.

a. “Collects data . . . in a systematic and ongoing process.” I would look in the care plan for nursing orders that call for some kind of assessment on a scheduled basis. For example, an order might read, “Temperature q4hr” or “Check dressing for drainage once per shift.” I would also look at the nursing notes, especially for flow sheets (e.g., vital sign flow sheets, input and output records, neurological checks) to see whether assessment findings were recorded at regular intervals. I would look for nursing diagnoses or other conclusions they have charted in the nurses’ notes (e.g., stating that the medication has effectively relieved pain). Other evidence would be to observe the nurses doing systematic and ongoing data collection.

Secondly, I would ask the family members about how they are involved in the patients care , are they getting a culturally competent care ,are they satisfied with it .
