Sensitivity-measures the proportion of true positives of a disease in a population.

Sensitivity therefore quantifies the avoidance of false negatives but at the same time have an increased probablility of false positives.

Specificity measures the proportion of true negatives so specificity quantifies the avoidance of false positives.

But increased probability of false negatives

So both sensitivity and specificity are required for screening test usefulness.
