Cost driver mainly connected with Activity based costing method. Cost driver is a pool of/ unit of cost activity that causes a business to perform.
Traditional method of allocation cost based on “ Cost Driver” . We need to select suitable cost driver to derive to determine Pre defined overhead rate.
Manufacturing overhead cost combination of Unit level, Batch level, Product line level, Facility support level base cost .
Ice Cream Industry main component is Flavour, Different flavour must have different ingredients. Unit of production cost drive would be = Gallon
Keeping ice cream in the Container + Storage cost ( under different temperature) + Set up new Machine to get flavoured ice cream .
Certain other factor like Building depreciation will be continue and not depends on ice cream production . This is type of fixed / common cost and no need to allocate the same into production .
Also we will always keep in mind about “ Inventory “ cost factor .
More complex nature in production will invite more cost driver into the Production. We noticed that allocation of cost on the basis of Labour Hour/ Machine Hour .
