What would be difference between the IRs of p-toluic acid (starting material) and 4- (bromomethyl)benzoic acid (product)? (You don’t need to look up the IR of p-toluic acid, just think about what is changing between the starting material and product). Why is IR not a good way to verify that you made product?

Answer #1

The only difference in p-toluic acid and 4-(bromomethyl)Benzoic acid is presence of Br. This C-Br bond show stretching vibration around 500-600 cm-1. IR is not good to distinguish them because this region is not significantly important as peaks are weak and many more peaks appear in this region.

I only need answer to 4 4- Which is stronger - the bond between water molecules or the bond between the two amino acids (formed from the dehydration synthesis above)? Explain why? (2pt) Imagine a biochemistry lab is testing out a new procedure to improve the synthesis of a dipeptide molecule made with the amino acids Valine and Threonine. The hypothesis is that acid as a catalyst will improve the condensation reaction between the amino acids and create a greater...

“Opportunity cost” in economics basically is what you have to give up to get something—not necessarily restricted to dollar amounts.  What is the opportunity cost of your going to college?  (Note that this is not necessarily something that you can just look up or copy from a friend—you need to think about it and the answers may very well be different for each student.  Also, I am not looking for any exact monetary calculation.) Draw a production possibilities curve for food and clothing.  If...

can someone help me answer these 5 questions and figire this graph out please? Acid-Base Titration of a Weak Acid with a Strong Base: Determination of K. Introduction: You will be titrating a solution of a weak acid with 0.100 M NaOH, while monitoring the reaction using a pH meter. Weak acids have characteristic acid-ionization constants, K. The purpose of this lab is to use the titration to determine the value of this constant for the weak acid called “benzoic...
