Answer #1

Solubility in water or alkaline water is not useful to distinguish between aldehyde and ketone.

IR spectroscopy is used to distinguish between functional groups. Like aldehyde and ketone.

Tollens reagent can distinguish between aldehyde and ketone. Aldehyde is reacts with tollens reagent to give acid but ketone will not give positive tollens test.

Chromate oxidation is used to distinguish between aldehyde and ketone. Aldehyde reacts with chromate to give carboxylic acid. Ketone will not.
