1, Follow strict handwashing and hygiene precautions before starting the feeding administration set, wear gloves when handling administration set. follow hanging times guidelines with individual formulations and storage precautions in the refrigerator, not more than 96 hours until use.
2, check patient urine sugar level and acetone level every 6 hours, check vital signs every 8 hours and check the patient weight before feeding or daily. check patient serum electrolyte, blood urea, nitrogen, glucose level daily. measure weekly trace elements for adequate minerals replacement. Do ongoing nutritional assessment for proper nutrition maintenance.
3, Diarrhea management includes appropriate antidiarrheal medications. stop antibiotics, osmolality active medications. follow simple antidiarrhoeal agents like codeine phosphate or loperamide. use short term feeding and use a non-fiber formula. use prebiotics and probiotics for safe feeding. switch from pump feeding to gastric bolus or postpyloric feeding.
