D5W 1000 ml in 8 hours - 400 ml in 4 hours = 600 ml in 4 hours to be infused

Rate of infusion = total volume \times drop factor \div time in minutes

                          = 600 \times 20 \div 240

                          = 50 gtts/min

To infuse 600 ml in 4 hours we should set the infusion to 50 drops per minute.
