Tess is three years of age and just started to attend a childhood education and care service while her parents work full-time. Jamie is four years of age and attends a preschool each morning while his single mother looks after his younger sibling. Huy is eight years of age and has recently migrated to Australia from Vietnam and is enrolling for outside school hours care (OSHC). Huy and his parents speak very little English
Tess was running to the dining room for morning tea and she bumped another child who fell and hurt their knee which needed a bandaid on it. Running inside is against the centre’s rules. Write what you might say to Tess’s parents to clearly and calmly communicate information about this specific incident.
The communication should be gentle and making the parents understand and accept the injury caused by their child to another child accidentally.
First inform them regarding the injury happened to the other child and probably show the intervention done on the child(this can make Tess parents understand the situation)
Then inform that this was caused because of Tess running down to the dining room and injuring the child.
Finally inform them that running inside the premises is against the center's rule and it has to be followed by every child
This systematic approach can prevent unnecessary conflicts and meanwhile provide ample of time for the parents to think ,accept and act.
