Being a HR I have will have to go through the various check points for selection of any logistic specialist and also considering the company's requirements and work nature. While a logistics Person has responsibilities that can vary from one company to another, we can agree that it’s not an easy task. Logistics person have the crucial role of ensuring things go smoothly no matter what. To find a good logistics person , we have to rounded up ten skills that should be in a logistic specialist or in logistic manager. Also we will consider that we are hiring a logistic manager for a company so he or she should have the following qualities:-

Positive/Forward Thinking

As a logistics manager he must develop the ability to make accurate predictions of the possible needs of the company, as well as outcomes of actions made anywhere in the entire supply chain because a person with such skill will act faster, will see risks that may arise, and will develop contingency plans for problems that may or may not arise in future because a person with plan and who think ahead is good.

Numerical and Analytical Skills

A good logistics manager does not necessarily have to be a graduate of a mathematics or statistics degree, although it can be a plus.Because if that person know how to read and analyze data, and make interpretations that are useful to the company, he will make a fine profits or benefits in logistics. Also the person with good analytical skills can do things quicker and better when having the pressure time.

Should be a good team player

Being a good logistics manager it is must to be a good team player because acknowledging that the success of every aspect of the supply chain is a group effort single handed or one man army concept cant work for healthy logistics chain.

Should have good Industry Knowledge

the main line of being a specialist or a logistic person is to have knowledge about  latest happenings and trends in supply chain which you can say is essential to being an effective logistic manager. A good start for a logistics manager’s education is taking a look at and how to calculate freight class and understanding how class is determined. Freight class determines LTL pricing. Given that it is an ever evolving industry, so that hired person can ensure that company’s supply chain is running in the most efficient way.

Should be a decision Maker

A logistics manager must be able to make sound decisions and do it FAST. Although there will always be unforeseen circumstances when in the supply chain industry, being good in such conditions a good decision maker can come out of it after taking wise decision towards the profitability of the company.

Adaptable

A good logistic manager always have the quality of adaptability with his job because no matter how early he finished his planning, prepared all the paperwork, and finalized all the details of your transactions, unexpected things always seem to find their way to surface. Problems and last-minute changes are almost totally inevitable in a logistics manager’s day-to-day life, so he should be always quick on feet to welcome change and make the necessary adjustments.

Accountability

Logistic person should be accountable for his every actions as even just by the sound of it, a logistics manager seems like an imperative position in a company. But just like any other position, it has its fair share of consequences. When things did not go as planned, logistics managers must be ready to take responsibility for the blunder. A good logistics manager doesn’t play the blame game, and must know when and how to own up one’s mistakes and even take a bullet for the teammates and the company.

Should be good follow up taker

Once logistic person done with mastering the art of being organized, one thing he also have to do as a logistics manager is following up with each component of the supply chain and making ensuring an important delivery gets to where it ought to be. So he should be involved in the process from the start right until the very end. If a problem arises along the way, he will take note of this and find possible solutions he can use, just in case it happens again in the future.

High level of Interpersonal Skills

As Logistic person requires to deal with people from all walks of life—from workers and bosses, to suppliers and clients, he need to make a good connection with everyone he transact with. There is little to zero room for miscommunication both in the face-to-face and written form in the logistics industry. When writing clear and effective proposals and documents, he can can tap essay services to help you.

Reference Check:- Before considering the candidate for final I will also check with whose reference he has come for interview because considering person from a r from a employee who is not good in his work and dont have a good track record in term of work and company's profit , so there should be a second thought about that candidate .

Background check:- Yes before assuring his joining date and all we have to a background check just to ensure that he is honest with information he is giving while applying for job and also need to cross check the reasons to leave the last organization if these two thing I found satisfactory so we can move forward to next step of hiring.

Legal Standards which need to check:- Because Now is the time to take a critical look at your hiring process to make sure it is efficient and effective. Remember: A little bit of common sense goes a long way toward hiring the best employees. So always need to consider of below mentioned points.

Minimum educational requirement

Background check

Credit checks

Work experience

To keep your hiring process standard always keep everything transparent for the candidate and below things should be crystal clear:-

  • list the duties and responsibilities of the job, moving from general to specific.
  • state job qualifications and pre-requisites in an objective manner. Examples: “Must have bachelor’s degree
  • include language indicating that you are an “Equal Opportunity Employer” and that nothing in the job posting or description should be construed as an offer or guarantee of employment.
  • DO NOT use language that states or suggests a preference for a particular gender, race, age or other such quality. Example: “Looking for a young, energetic team player.” Both the words “young” and “energetic” suggest an age preference and is likely illegal. Better: “Looking for a hard-working team player.”

Test Required :-

Skill Test:- I will ask him/her for a skill test where I will put 20 questions of general reasoning because when we are looking for candidate with good analytical and problem solving skills so he should be good in reasoning and aptitude .

Excel Test:- I will also take a live excel test to ensure that he is good in excel too because logistic person always remain in touch with extensive data so he should have good knowledge of excel filters, pivot table, v-lookup h-lookup, if condition etc.

Method Recommended:- For every hiring there is standard hiring method which is best method in which we have various stages to follow and those stages are given below:-

Before scheduling a job interview with a candidate, is to review each candidate's cover letter and resume. When faced with 100 to 200 candidates, it's important to use tools that separate the great candidates from the many. These will help you select the best candidates for the interview. They will also help you prepare your list of questions to use to telephone screen candidates and then ask during your interviews.

The telephonic conversation with candidate or  candidate phone screen allows you to determine if the candidate's qualifications, experience, workplace preferences, and salary needs are congruent with the position and your organization.

The telephone interview saves employee time and eliminates unlikely candidates. While you will want to develop a customized job interview with customized questions for each position, this step helps narrow down your prospects.

The above given method I will recommend to every one who is hiring someone for his company because considering the all above points for logistic hiring we can get the best candidate.

After completing all the process of hiring I will communicate with the finalist according to the process we have in our organization if we have process to communicate in the office itself I will communicate at the same day to save the time of final candidate and to have a good impression of the our company because most of the time hiring process becomes very lengthy due to which there is always a fear of losing good candidate in between which simply may leads to more attrition. So I will always communicate asap basis only.

Hope it was helpful.
