Imagine you are the manager of an office team, and you are given the authority to hire someone for a new position on your team. Because the position comes with added responsibilities and higher pay, two members of your current team are pursuing the position. Both are well-qualified candidates, but there is only one position. You make your decision and promote one of the candidates. Now, it is time for you to break the news to the other finalist. Respond to the following questions in your initial discussion post:

  • How will you deliver the bad news to the candidate that was not chosen for the new position?
  • What could soften the bad news?
  • What do you think the result of delivering this news will be?
  • If you were the candidate, how would you take the news? Would it change any of your answers to the previous questions?

Any person does not want to give or take bad news but there are circumstances which makes us to take such decisions but we can take effective approaches which can help us to minimize the effects of bad news we are giving to another person who is not hired for the job in this company.I would deliver the bad news to the other person who is not chosen by telling his positive points

Like" we are glad that you have given you good efforts and time to our company in our selection process and we value you skills and knowledge you showed during the interview."

then we would come to the main points like what the person lacks and what other person who is selected has an edge over him to get job. we would try to sweeten the bad news with positive words so that the other person would understand our side of story too.This would soften the bad news in some positive way.

The results of delivering this news could be good like if other person is understandable then he would support our decision and try to improve his weaknesses or bad effects like if person became furious or angry then he may try to spoil the image of company by bad word of mouth or posting negative comments on socila media. it totally depends on the personality of the other person.

I i were the candidate then i would take the news in positive manner because faliures helps us to improve our negative points and leads to the much bigger succeess. who knows i would get better job in other company.This would not change my previous answers because if i can give negative news then i can take bad news as well.
