A medical case work or a Medical social work is one kind of social work and they generally worked in hospitals. Primary roles of Medical Social Workers are

1. Counseling: Medical social workers advice and council patients and their family members. They explain about the nature of illness and what they should do to deal with the symptoms. They help them to get over the trauma caused by the illness.

2. Advocacy: Medical social workers act as an intermediary between the patient and medical community. They help the patients who have communication barriers or any other differences to have a effective communication.

3. Legal Assistance: Medical social workers provide legal assistance to the patients. There will be situations where the social worker needs to take legal action to protect the patient. Situations like parents not able to unwilling to take care of their sick child or it could be the case of abuse. In these cases the social worker provides legal assistance.
