Answer #1

The functional group aldehyde, ketone and acid have carbonyl group(-C=O) in their structures. Thus have a characteristic peak of carbonyl group at around 1700 cm-1.

Typically speaking the peak of aldehyde is around 1725cm-1.

The peak of ketone is around 1715cm-1.

And the peak for acid is around 1705-1700cm-1.

All these peaks are absent in the given spectra.

Thus option aldehyde, ketone and acid are eliminated.

Now we are left with alcohol and amines.

Both alcohol and amines give a peak of OH and NH respectively around 3300cm-1.

But the ir peak of OH is broad whereas, peak for NH is sharp and straight.

The given spectra is for amine.

Answer is C)amine.
