13. Answer.
calculating a fluid requirement for the children weight 15 kg
.
There are 2 formula that can be applied to calculate the half maintenance of fluids in the child
Formula 1
FORMULA METHOD ( 100- 50- 20 )
( 100- 50- 20 ) MEANS 100 ml for the first 10 kg OF THE BODY WEIGHT + 50 ml for the next 11 to 20 kg OF THE BODY WEIGHT + 20 ml for each extra kgS OF THE BODY WEIGHT in a 24 Hour of the period.
to calculate the fluid requirements for a 15 kg child,
100 ml X 10 kg ( body weight ) + 50 ml X 5 kg ( body weight ) / 24 hours
here, next 20 ml each kg will not be added as child total weight falls within 20 kgs.
=100 ml X 10 kg ( first 10 kgs of the body weight ) + 50 ml X 5 kg ( next 5 kg of the body weight ) / 24 hours
= 1000 ml + 250 ml / 24 hours
RATE OF FLUID = Daily needed volume of fluid / 1 Day or 24 hours
= 1250 ml / 24 hours ( fluid requirements IN 24 HOURS ),
DIVIDING 1250ML BY 24 HOURS TO GET THE AMOUNT OF FLUID NEEDED IN ONE HOUR
= 52.083333 ml / hour fluid will be administered to the child whose weight is 15 kg.
= 52 ML / HOUR
FORMULA 2
4- 2 - 1 FORMULA METHOD
IT MEANS, 4 ML / KG / HOUR FOR FIRST 10 KG OF THE BODY WEIGHT
2 ML / KG / HOUR FOR THE NEXT 11 TO 20 KG OF THE BODY WEIGHT
1 ML / KG / HOUR FOR THE ANY EXTRA KGS
TO CALCULATE FLUID REQUIREMENT FOR A 15 KG CHILD.
4ML X 10 KG ( FIRST 10 KG OF THE BODY WEIGHT ) + 2 ML X 5 KG ( ANOTHER 5 KG OF THE CHILDS WEIGHT / PER HOUR
HERE, ALSO ANOTHER 1 ML WILL NOT BE ADDED AS CHILD'S TOTAL WEIGHT FALLS WITHIN 20 KG.
4ML X 10 KG ( FIRST 10 KG OF THE BODY WEIGHT ) + 2 ML X 5 KG ( ANOTHER 5 KG OF THE CHILDS WEIGHT ) / HOUR
= 40 ML ( FIRST 10 KG OF THE CHILD'S WEIGHT ) + 10 ML ( ANOTHER 5 KG OF THE CHILD'S WEIGHT ) / HOUR
= 50 ML / HOUR .
CALCULATING THE FLUID REQUIREMENTS OF THE CHILD BY ABOVE 2 FORMULAE, WE GOT THE DIFFERENCE OF APPROXIMATELY 2 ML / HOUR OF THE FLUID, BOTH THE FORMULAE CAN BE APPLIED TO CALCULATE THE HALF MAINTAINANCE FLUID REQUIREMENT OF THE CHILD.
