Answer #1

ANSWER.

a) Pump setting in mL/hr.

        Formula

            Flow rate(ml/hr) = Volume(ml)/Time(hr)

      Calculation of Volume(ml).

Formula = Desired dose/Dose in hand * Quantity.

            Here

                Desired dose(D) = 1.5 mg/min.

                Dose in hand(H)= 150 mg.

                       Quantity(Q)= 200 ml.

       As per formula

             Volume = D/H * Q

                              =1.5/150 * 200

                              = 0.01 * 200

                              = 2 ml/min.

Multiply 60 minute(1hr) to ml/min to get ml/hr pump setting.

        So

             mL/hr = 2ml/min * 60

                        = 120 ml/hr.

b) IV finishing time.

          IV begining time = 8 am.(0800 hours).

Amount of solution in the IV bag = 200 ml.

                Flow rate(ml/min) = 2ml/min.

         Time(hr) taken for finishing 200 ml = 200/2

                                                                = 100 min

                                                                = 1 hr 40 min.

        So

               IV finishing time = 8am + 1hr 40 min

                                        = 9.40 am.
