The 'layer' of water has dimensions: 1cm x 5km x 7km

Pick a unit to work in. Probably its easiest to work in cm.

5km = 5000m = 500,000cm

7km = 7000m = 700,000cm

Volume of water = 1 x 500,000 x 700,000 = 3.5x10¹¹ cm³ = 3.5x108 L

= (3.5x108)/3.785 gal

= 9.25 x 107 gal.

To 1 sig. fig. this is 9x107 gal.
