The Children's Internet Protection Act (CIPA) mandates K-12 schools and libraries to use Internet filters and introduce certain steps to protect children from unsafe online content as a condition of obtaining certain federal funding, in particular E-rate funds. It was signed into law on 21 December 2000 and was found to be constitutional by the U.S. Supreme Court, June 23, 2003. CIPA is one of the measures passed by the United States Congress to restrict children's access to online pornography and sexual content.
