Question

Is the point of zero field at z 0.30 m, to the left of z 0.30 m, or to the rnght of z 0.30 m Constants | Periodic Table IP Consider a system of three point charges on the z axis. Charge 1 is at z 0, charge 2 is at z 0.20 m, and charge 3 is at z 040 m. In addition, the charges have the following values: q1-19 μC 9s 19 C The electric field vanishes at some point on the z ais between z 020 m and z 0.40 Im 0 to the right of z 0.30 m o at z 0.30 m e to the left of z 0.30 m V Correct Part B Find the point where E 0between z 020 m and z :040 m 1n Submit

Answer #1

field from q1 and q3 points to the left and field from q2 points to the right.

Suppose that x is the point between 0.20 and 0.40

then

E = kq ( -1/x2 - 1/ (0.4-x)2 + 1/(x - 0.2)2)

Now, just put the values as given, note that put E = 0

so, we have

0 = kq( -1/x2 - 1/ (0.4-x)2 + 1/(x - 0.2)2)

x = 0.297 m
