Answer #1

In SN2 reaction always the nucleophile attacks from the back side of the leaving (single step reaction) and the product formation takes place through the inversion of configuration. The rate of reaction depends on the concentration of the substrate as well as on the concentration of the nucleophile.

SN2 reaction involves the formation of the carbocation intermediate (rate determining step) and the product formation takes place with racemisation. The rate of reaction depends only on the concentration of the substrae but not on the concentration of the nucleophile.

E1 reaction involves the formation of the carbocation intermediate (rate determining step).

In E2 reaction, the base abstracts proton from the alpha position of the leaving and the reaction proceeds through anti-periplanar transition state in a 1. To which mechanism(s) if any does each statement apply? Fill in each blank with SN1, SN2, E1, E2, or N/A (not applicable)single step. The rate of reaction depends on the concentration of the substrate as well as on the concentration of the base..
