Solution:

Sulfur is less electronegative than oxygen and also contains strong tendency for catenation. The lone pair electrons of sulfur causes less repulsion to bond pairs than oxygen due to large size,  hence sulfur atoms are held togather by strong single bonds than weak π bonds. Thus, in the elemental forms of sulfur posses only sigma bonds while oxygen contains both sigma and π bonds.
