Enteral Tube feeding calculation:
Step 1:
Convert patient's weight into kg.
Patient weight = 112lbs.
Patient weight in kg = 112 / 2.2 = 50.90kg.
Step 2:
Convert patient's height in inches.
Patient's height = 5.8 or 69.6inches.
Step 3:
Calculate the amount of calories required daily
By using Harris-Benedict formula
BMR for women = 655 + (4.35 X wt in Kg) + (4.7 X height in inches) - (4.7 X age in years)
= 655 + (4.35 X 50.90) + (4.7 X 69.6) - (4.7 X 30)
= 655 + 221.415 + 327.12 - 141
= 1203.535 - 141
=1062.535
BMR = 1063 (rounded off)
Step 4:
Calculation of total calories by multiplying BMR with activity.
For sedentary activity, BMR X 1.2
Total amount of daily calories = 1063 X 1.2
= 1275.6 kCal /day.
Step 5:
Calculate the rate of tube feeding
The recommended is Nutren 1.5Kcal/ mL
So, 1276 / 1.5 = 850.6 mL
The patients should be tube fed of 850mL per day
Rate of tube feeding per hr = 850 / 24 = 35.4mL
The patient required 35mL of tube fed per hour.
Step 6:
Calculation of water requirements
Multiply pt weight by 35mL/kg.
Water requirement = 50.90 X 35 = 1781.5 mL
