Some of the risks that an office romance poses:

  • Favoritism is percieved by other employees
  • lower credibility of the supervisor in the eyes of their team members
  • employee morale is lowered of the partners involved in romance
  • Potential conflicts of interest
  • company policy gets violated
  • Challenges to consistent enforcement of company policy
  • Other employees may claim sexual harassment
  • If the relationship breaks badly one of the partner will claim sexual harassment or discimination.
  • other employes may start gossiping and spread fake rumors that can cause impact to the overall work environment and the longer term careers of the partners will be in risk.
  • Privacy issues associated with employer inquiries into the romance

Yes, a policy on office romance is a good idea.

policies on office romance:

1. No public display of affection(PDA) policy: public display of affection may disract other people and can make them feel uncomfortable.They wont't focus on their work so the couple should not display their affection publicly.

2.Respect privacy: this is to respect the privacy of the couple. Company creates such policy to control the negative side of the affair and to keep the work environment healthy.

no i don't think that there is any disadvantage to these policies.
