Question

Question 5 A 200 gram foam ball is propelled from ground level into the air with an initial velocity of 13 m/s at an angle of 37 degrees from horizontal (+x direction). Halfway through its flight, it strikes a giant yellow bird flying at 8 m/s in the-x direction. This causes the balls velocity to be reduced by 20% but it continues flying thru the air. The bird loses one feather but is ok and continues flying at 7 m/s. After flying for a while longer, the ball hits the ground. What is the acceleration of the ball in the y-direction right after it bounces off the bird? Select the correct answer CHECK ANSWER 0 of 1 attempts used LAST ATTEMPT O There is insufficient information given to solve this problem O between -20 and -30 m/s/s O between 0 and-10 m/s/s O between -10 and -20 m/s/s O between 0 and 10 m/s/s

Answer #1

The momentum or acceleration of the ball does not change in the y direction.

The acceleration in y direction is due to the gravity.

That value is g = -9.8 m/s/s in - y direction.

Hence the accaelaccele in y direction is between 0 and -10 m/s/s.
