Question

c) Plasma estrone plus estradiol (Plasma E1 2) steroid levels were measured in women given estrogen (Premarin) and in a control group of women. The women given estrogen were divided into three treatment groups. One group was given a daily dose of. 0.625 mg, the second group was given 1.25 mg, and the third group was given 2.5 mg. The researchers noted that the plasma steroid levels were not normally distributed, but became so after a logarithm transformation was applied. The data is given in log scale in the table below. Logio ng/100 mLi Plasma Et-ź Concentration for Estrogen Study Group Control 0.625 1.25 2.5 30 16 24 21 Mean 2.01 2.10 2.34 2.20 SD 0.27 0.31 0.39 0.24 i) State the independent and dependent variables. Answer #1

i) The independent variables in the given problem are Estrogen dosage, and dependent variables are Plasma E1+2 steroid levels since it is dependent on the dosage of Estrogen.

ii) Since all the observations are given in log scale and also given that after converting the observations into log scale the observations follow normal distribution and there are four levels of treatment. Hence we use one factor Analysis of Variance to analyse the data.
