The issue of the wage gap between the sexes has been discussed for decades, and pay equity legislation is supposed to take care of it. However, Statistics Canada reports that there is still a gap of about 10 percent in average salaries across jobs and provinces. It has been argued that women will never achieve pay equity, because their role in society often requires them to interrupt a career, have children, and stay home to bring them up. How ethical is it to expect women to make this sacrifice and then pay for it in terms of lower average compensation?

Wage gap is the variation in earning of male and female. It is actually represented in terms of the earnings of male. That is eventhough woman does the same job as male, but they are not provided with the same wages provided to male.

Some of the reasons for wage gap includes:

• The capabilities and skills of women are not recognized or not accepted, as a result women are paid less eventhough they doeas the same job as men and work for the same time.

• In an organization, promotion rate is less for the wowen. All of the organization thinks that women can't handle the risky works or mangerial roles. So women are not appointed to top levels in an organization.

• society also plays a major role. They consider that some jobs are suitable mostly for women. The most examples are teaching profession, health an public sectors.since these sectors are provided with a low wages, women are earned lesser when compared to men.

• There are some false myths acquired traditionally. That is women are meant for caring elder and sick famiky persons, bringing up the children, and doing the household works.

Most women have to break in their career fields inorder to take care and bring up the children and elder ones. It results in their earnings badly.

Since many laws and orders came to protect the rights of women in equal payment, however there is still difficulties for a woman to get equal payment. Since the payment details of the male and female workers are kept secretly in most of the organizations, it is difficult to find out whether she is equally paid when compared to the same male emoloyee. Even if she find the mispayment, it needs a lot of money and time to bring or file a case against an emoloyee whose is provided with more benefits and preferences than her.
