For this discussion question, let’s tackle a modified version of one of the the analytical questions listed in the Equiano document - Imagine you are a resident of Massachusetts in the 1790s. You’ve read some of the Federalist papers published by Hamilton and Madison, and you’re thinking about the Constitution and whether to vote in your state to ratify it. Then, you read Equiano’s narrative and you learn some of the facts about the slave trade and the institution of slavery (such as detailed in the essay you read at the beginning of this topic). How might it change your mind about what the Constitution should include? This begs another question: What did John Jay leave out in his letter to Thomas Jefferson about the state of the country? What does he talk about but also what DOESN'T he talk about?
