Given data set is as below :

X   2 4 6 8 10 12

Y 50 53 56   58   58

We are to fit a regression line to fit Y on X.

The regression equation will be of the form ,

                             y = a+bx

                     where a and b are to be estimated such that it minimises the sum of squares due to error.

The values of a and b thus obtained by using regression model in MINITAB (equivalent to any other package like StatKey) are:

a= 51.55

b= 0.624

       Hence,

                            Y = 51.55 + 0.624 X
