In slide agglutination test, the purpose of doing this test with both H and O antigen are discussed below:

- it is used in order to check for the antibody to salmonella organism in the patient's blood.

- if there is presence of any homologous antigen in the patient's blood, then it will go and react to the specific antigens used for the test purpose.

- the H and O antigen is used to attract salmonella typhi and the O antigen is used to attract salmonella paratyphi.

- it has been adviced that the used antigens are H antigen is a ' flagellar antigen ' and the O antigen is a ' somatic antigen ' .

- this is also known as Widal test and is interpreted by using two methods: i.e, tube and slide method.
