Euthanasia

Merriam Webster's Definition of Euthanasia: 'It is the act or practice of killing or permitting the death of hopelessly sick or injured individuals( such as persons or domestic animals) in a relatively painless way for reasons of mercy'.

Pros and cons of Euthanasia

Arguments for Euthanasia

1. It gives a way to get relief from extreme pain; It is an act of providing an end to suffering. In some cases, individuals who are hopelessly bedridden , the pain will be unbearable. Euthanasia provides these individuals a way to end theirs and their loved one's suffering.

2. An end with nobility; An end with dignity by giving them an opportunity to choose their time of death and how they die so that they won't be burden for their family members. They no longer feel degraded by getting assistance for their nutritional, eliminational and hygienic needs.

3. Opens up medical funds to support other individuals; A large portion of medical fund is using for the care of terminally sick patients who is in irreversible coma. Euthanasia provides these individuals a reief from their suffering while saving the medical fund.

4. It is an another instance of freedom of choice.

Freedom of choice in dying gives a sense of peace and satisfaction to the individual.

Arguments against Euthanasia

1. Debases the human life ; Human life is precious. By allowing physicians to "kill" people, people will begin to misuse euthanasia by seeing it as a solution.

2. Religious beliefs ; Taking own life or other's life is a wrong thing, according to most of the religions. It view as a sin against God in Christian philosophy.

3. Ethical problems; Majority of Doctors or nurses will be in an ethical dilemma, when situation of Euthanasia occurs. Their own personal and religious values may block them from doing or assisting mercy killing.

4. Misuse of Euthanasia ; If it is legalized misuse of the same happens as for saving the cost of terminally ill patients doctors may perform it without permission or for the sake of hospitals.
