a. Objective: To monitor the height of students in class, based on a sample of 15 and to determine whether the process is in control.

b. Since the variable of interest, Height is a numeric (continuous) variable, the appropriate measure to summarize the sample would be the sample mean \overline{X} . Hence, the appropriate chart used to determine whether the process would be in control would be the \overline{X} chart.

In order to construct an \overline{X} chart, we first need to obtain the control limits, which can be computed using the formula:

= 77 - 59

The process can be considered to be in control if all the observations in the sample lie within the control limits.
