Answer #1

Let electricity savings per year be x KWh

Initial Cost=C=$110000

Salvage =S=$20000

Energy savings per year=0.10*x

MARR=i=15%

Useful life=n=6 years

A project is acceptable if its annual worth is at least zero.

AW=-110000*(A/P,0.15,6)+0.10x+20000*(A/F,0.15,6)

Put AW=0

-110000*(A/P,0.15,6)+0.10x+20000*(A/F,0.15,6)=0

Let us calculate the interest factors

(A/P,1,n) = 1 -

(A/P,0.15,6)=\frac{0.15}{1-\frac{1}{(1+0.15)^{6}}}=0.264237

(A/F,i,n) = a (1 + i) - 1

(A/F,0.15,6)=\frac{0.15}{(1+0.15)^{6}-1}=0.114237

Plug in these interest factors in above equation

-110000*0.264237+0.10x+20000*0.114237=0

x=(110000*0.264237-20000*0.114237)0.10=267813.30 KWh per year

    QUESTION 1 A new production system for a factory is to be purchased and installed for $177,896. This system will save approximately 300,000 kWh of electric power each year for a 6-year period. Assume the cost of electricity is $0.10 per kWh, and factory MARR is 15% per year, and the salvage value of the system will be $9,551 at year 6. Using the AW method to analyzes if this investment is economically justified A- calculate the AW of the...

    Consider a house in Blacksburg, Virginia. The typical annual space-heating load for this size of a house is 100 x105 Btu. That is, with no insulation in the attic, we lose about 100 x 105 Btu per year. With insulation in the attic the amount of heat lost each year will be reduced. The value of energy savings that results from adding insulation and reducing heat loss is dependent on what type of residential heating furnace is installed. Assume that...

    To reduce building heating costs, modern building codes in many parts of the country require the use of double-pane windows (sometimes, called "double-glazed" or "thermopane" windows). Ivpically, a double-pane window consists of two panes of glass separated by a space that contains trapped stagnant air. In one design of a double-pane window, each glass layer is 0.7 cm thick, the stagnant air layer is 2 cm thick, and the area is 4 m2 In the living room of a large...
