Ans) Eugenics is a set of beliefs and practices that aim to improve the genetic quality of a human population, typically by excluding people and groups judged to be inferior, and promoting those judged to be superior.
- Eugenics made its first official appearance in American history through marriage laws. In 1896, Connecticut made it illegal for people with epilepsy or who were “feeble-minded” to marry. In 1903, the American Breeder's Association was created to study eugenics.
Ethics of Eugenics This comes from the fact that the eugenics movement was heavily biased against non-white races, lower class citizens, and the mentally ill. Many mental disabilities are not even related to genes, and many human behaviors are influenced as much by our environment as our genetic make-up.
- The Ethics of Choosing Sperm:
Sperm banks differ in their selection of sperm donors. All are
highly selective, but some are more selective than others. Sperm
banks can carry any type of sperm they wish as long as they adhere
to proper laboratory standards and respect informed consent.
