Case Study 2 A patient with pneumonia is admitted to the intensive care unit with a diagnosis of septic shock. She is confused. Her extremities are cool to touch. A central line catheter is inserted. The patient's blood pressure is 76/40 with a heart rate of 100 beats/min. 1. What pharmacological treatment will the nurse expect to administer first? What assessment findings would indicate that the treatment is effective?

The nurse must tell him that his blood pressure is rising and it's complications are many and though he does not have any symptoms now but when he'll start to have sypmtoms then it'll be too late with more severe damage.

Case study (2)

Patient with septic shock in initial stages have warm extremities and cold extrimities means patiemt has gone in an irreversible state. Mainstay of treatment in septic shock are intravascular fluids(initially crystalloids,if not respond then colloids) and antibiotics (empirical therapy untill the results of blood culture).

Vasopressors have less role due to NO synthase isoform released by bacteria which results in refractory response to vasopressors.

1. To check effectiveness of treatment,vitals are checked if they are improving or not.Following are the indicators-

and HR decreasing
