Answer #1

sodium bicarbonate compatible with 5% dextrose and Normal saline. this corrects the metabolic acidosis disorder and improves myocardial function. Normal saline and 5%D in water have low buffer capacity, it turns the solution acidic with acidic medication. sodium bicarbonate has alkaline Ph. it has a compatibility measure for the standard concentration of medication. Ph of IV medication is important, sodium bicarbonate raises the blood PH and allows to move from muscle cells into the bloodstream, it makes the Ph normal. It is incompatible with high buffer capacity IV fluids like ringer lactate.
zofran -Incompatible
It should be mixed with a solution that can not cause physical and chemical compatibility.
Phenytoin-Incompatible
Because it increases the Ph of solutions. 0.9%NS and RL are suitable for phenytoin IV administration.
Levaquin-incompatible
5%D/1/2NS IV push for levaquin not recommeded.
