Answer #1

The essay "The Wonderful Lousy Poem" describes the childhood experiences of the author which helped him to become a successful writer. This essay explains how both encouragement and criticism is important to achieve success in any profession.

In the essay "The Wonderful Lousy Poem", the author describes the different types of reactions of his mother and father towards his first poem. He describes how his mother and father responded contrastingly to his first written poem. His father was the head of Paramount studios and his mother was a founder and prime mover in various intellectual projects. Both of them were educated and related to the Hollywood community.

According to the author, he was encouraged by his mother when he wrote his first poem but he was criticized by his father. He expected that his father would also respond like his mother but this did not happened. His father responded differently by criticizing him. There was a situation of some tension and disagreement between his mother and father over this issue.

Later on, the author realized that both his mother's motivation and father's criticism helped him to become a successful writer. This is how some childhood experiences help us to become a successful person in any profession.
