Traditional medicine has policed by medical boards in each state. They have been historically conservative when it comes to new techniques or new uses for old medical practices. How can the profession help to protect the consumer from inappropriate practitioners while still allowing new practices to flourish? Specifically, how can we integrate the use of CAM into treatments while assuring our patients that the means and caregiver are safe and well trained? Who should police the use and education of any caregiver? Should this all come under the purview of the medical board of each state?

Answer #1

The traditional medicine has been policed by many medical boards in each state and they are conservative about any form of new medical practice or use of old medical practices in the states. It has been seen that many medical practices are practiced without specialization and these can possess significant negative impact over the health and wellbeing of the patients. Policing traditional medicines can help the healthcare consumers from any form of inappropriate practice while allowing new practices to flourish. The CAM is defined as a group of diverse medical and healthcare practices that are not used in the western medicine culture. The CAM therapies are divided into 5 categories which include alternative medical systems, biologically based therapies, energy therapies, manipulative and body based methods and mind-body interventions. These CAM therapies can be included into the conventional healthcare practices by including skilled therapists in the system. Specialized therapists for Ayurveda, homeopathic medicine, osteopathic manipulation, massage, dietary supplements and meditation can help developed skilled professionals. This can enable the common people to have faith in these therapies. The medical boards and hospitals in each state should police the use and education of any care provider and it should completely come under the purview of the medical board of each state. Proper patrolling and supervision can increase the present state of health by employing these techniques.
